El presente perfecto continuo se compone de dos elementos: el presente perfecto del verbo to be (have/has been) y el verbo en forma -ing (root+ing).

- She has been reading the book for five hours.
- They have been playing basketball since morning.
Funciones del presente perfecto continuo
El presente perfecto continuo se refiere a un tiempo no específico entre el pasado y el presente. El hablante se refiere a algo que se empezó y puede no haberse terminado en ese tiempo. Se interesa tanto por el proceso como por el resultado, y puede que el proceso acabe de terminar o que aún no haya terminado.
Acciones iniciadas en el pasado y que siguen produciéndose en la actualidad
- He has been waiting for you all day (= he is still waiting).
- You‘ve been working on this essay since six o’clock this morning (= not yet completed).
- We have been traveling since last March (= we have not yet returned).

Forma afirmativa
Estructura de las oraciones afirmativas
Reglas para la 1ª, 2ª y 3ª persona del singular y del plural. Aquí usamos el verbo auxiliar (have) + el verbo to be en la forma de participio pasado (been) + verbo en la forma -ing.
En la tercera (3ª) persona del singular, utilizamos el verbo auxiliar has.

Estructura de las oraciones negativas

Estructura de las preguntas
Cuando queremos hacer preguntas, utilizamos la misma estructura de las oraciones afirmativas. Sólo añadimos el auxiliar have para 1ª, 2ª persona del singular, y 1ª, 2ª y 3ª del plural, o has para 3ª persona del singular al principio de las frases. Añadimos un signo de interrogación al final de la frase. El verbo está en la forma base.
