Pasado simple

Aquí encontrarás toda la información sobre el pasado simple, su estructura, formas afirmativas, negativas, interrogativas y algunos ejemplos.

Utilizamos el pasado simple para hablar de una acción que terminó en un tiempo anterior al actual. La duración no es relevante. Debemos recordar que en los verbos regulares sólo se añade -ed al final de la palabra sin embargo, para los verbos irregulares, debemos recordar la regla de la forma pasada de los verbos.

Recuerda que el sujeto se refiere a personas, animales o cosas. El verbo es la acción. El complemento es la parte complementaria del sujeto que completa el significado de una expresión.

Ejemplos de pasado simple:

John sailed to Spain in 1998.

My father arrived yesterday.

They lived in Manta in 1996.

We crossed the ocean two years ago.

You broke the rules.

They brought that wall.

She drew some beautiful paints.

drank some water.

Forma afirmativa de todos los verbos

Aquí utilizamos la forma pasada de los verbos, ya sean regulares o irregulares.

  • They understood the classes.
  • It fixed by itself.

Forma negativa de todos los verbos

Estructura de las oraciones negativas

Aquí utilizamos la forma pasada de los verbos, ya sean regulares o irregulares. En la forma negativa del pasado simple, el auxiliar do se cambia por did.

For example:

  • We didn’t do our homework last night.
  • They didn’t visit their parents that day.
  • He didn’t play the guitar in school.

Sólo debemos recordar qué verbo corresponde a cada persona.

I = was
You = were
They = were

He, she, it = was

Preguntas de pasado simple

Estructura de las preguntas

Cuando queremos hacer preguntas, utilizamos la misma estructura de las frases afirmativas, y sólo añadimos el auxiliar did para todas las personas al principio de las frases. Añadimos un signo de interrogación al final de la frase. El verbo está en la forma base. Las preguntas: Tenemos dos posibilidades, las preguntas de tipo “wh” y las preguntas generales o de tipo “sí/no”.

Tenemos dos respuestas posibles: Respuestas cortas y respuestas largas.

Respuesta corta:

  • Did you play the piano in school?
    Yes, I did.   No, I didn’t. / No, I did not.
  • Didn’t the children like that music?
    No, they didn’t.

     

  • Did Charles and Richard live in Manta?
    No, they didn’t.

Respuesta larga:

  • Where did Martha live before?
    She lived in Quito.
  • What did he do on holiday?
    He watched the TV in his house.
  • When did Gladys usually wake up?
    She usually woke up at 8:30.
